A Year Since They Suspended Democracy

Executive Power and the mainstream media spun a major “fake news” about Russian meddling in Romania last year. Was it all a Romanian–European inside job? Interview with Elena Lasconi.

Where are those Russians?

How is it that the people who either failed to protect Romania from alleged online manipulation, or manipulated the country to the point of suspending its democracy, are still in charge?

How is it that there is neither a “smoking gun” nor a formal and definitive attribution to Russia?

No damning evidence explaining how this alleged foreign influence could have led Romanians to vote for anything other than what they wanted.

No irrefutable demonstration—despite the lies occasionally spun by the French Ambassador in Romania.

Democratic failure

The profound failure of Romania as a democracy has been covered by many already: Thomas Fazi, Lee Fang, Matt Taibbi, Mike Benz, Glenn Diesen, J.D. Vance.

I covered the subject a number of times (see links at the end).

I went to interview Ms Lasconi, who was one of the two finalists of the first round (with Mr Georgescu), to ask her about the analysis that independent journalists produced on the events — analysis made regardless of what the Mainstream Media spun in their palpable obsession to serve Executive Power.

A year ago, Elena Lasconi represented the pro-Brussels line.

But the politician I met in Câmpulung was a completely different person, ready to denounce the lie spun for almost a year now.

Stay tuned, subscribe — the interview will go out soon.

NOTA: The whole interview will be released for pay subscribers only.

I work a lot; nobody in the international media in Romania has the courage to call out the manoeuvres of the Executive Power; the intensive report I co-authored about the European Union’s Digital Services Act is more of a sacerdotal effort so far, produced against an entire architecture that receives millions from the EU to moderate content and actually lies and silences dissent. Therefore, the full interview will be behind a paywall.
